Natural Colored Corriedale Fleeces
September 2011 - Fleeces Available
We are sold out of our beautiful yearling (hogget) fleeces. We still have a number of mature ewe fleeces available. Four hogget fleeces were entered in the Wool Show at Black Sheep Gathering and placed First, First, Second, and Fourth in colored medium wool classes. Two yearling fleeces were entered in the Monterey County Fair Wool Show and placed First and Second, and the First Place fleece was awarded Champion Black Fleece in the Show.
We produce our fleeces for discerning handspinners. Our sheep wear coats throughout the entire year to keep their fleeces clean and reduce sun bleaching. I skirt the fleeces heavily, discarding the head, neck, leg, and belly wool. I hand pick out any remaining vegetable matter or any second cuts so you receive only the highest quality wool. Our fleece colors range from true deep blacks to charcoal to various shades of gray. The best fleeces have a bold, well-defined crimp and very soft handle. Staple length is between 3 and 5 inches. Total fleece weights range from 3 to 8 pounds. Price is proportionate to quality, and begins at $8 a pound and goes to $18 for the best show quality fleeces.
Please send me an email at marblepeaks@gmail.com. Explain the characteristics most important to you (color, boldness of crimp, softness, number of pounds, etc.) so I can select appropriate fleeces. If you would like me to mail you sample locks, please include your mailing address.
Fleeces are shipped by FedEx, unless you request another carrier. You pay only what the shipping company charges us, plus $3 for the shipping carton (17x17x17 inch box).
